Ramón García-Sanz

Ramón García-Sanz, MD, PhD, is a consultant, physician and chief of unit at the University Hospital of Salamanca, Spain; a researcher in hematology at the Centre for Cancer Research in Salamanca; and associate professor in Hemotology at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Salamanca. He is also the current president of the Spanish Society of Hematology.
Clinical focus and interest:
Dr. García-Sanz is the principal investigator and co-investigator of many studies in Waldenström’s macroglobulinemia (WM), multiple myeloma, non-Hodgkin lymphoma and Hodgkin lymphoma. He has performed multiple biological studies, including minimal residual studies, as well as cellular assays and molecular biology studies in hematologic malignancies. Dr. García-Sanz is the coordinator of the Spanish group in Euroclonality.
Experience:
Dr. García-Sanz earned his MD with a special honour award in 1988 and his PhD in 1994 at the University of Salamanca. He specialized in hematology and hemotherapy from 1990 to 1994, with research and training in molecular biology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, Netherlands. He has been a consultant physician in hematology at the University Hospital of Salamanca since 1994 and associate professor in hematology* since 2008.
Affiliations:
In 2018, Dr. García-Sanz was made Pthe president-elect of the Spanish Society of Hematology, and became president of the society in 2019. He actively participates in the Spanish groups GEM/PETHEMA and GELTAMO, focusing on myeloma, WM, and Hodgkin lymphoma. Dr. García-Sanz has published 284 original papers and reviews in PubMed-indexed journals and is cited as an author of over 60 book chapters; has been an invited speaker at more than 50 international and national conferences; and has delivered over 120 communications at international congresses and more than 500 communications at national congresses.
